Forecast? Showers!

babyshowerWell as our due date approaches even faster than before its time to start thinking about all the final preparations. We start our prenatal classes this week, we’ve picked up the car seat and I’m starting to make and stockpile food for those first new baby weeks where making meals from scratch will seem absurd. I’ve also had a couple of girlfriends approach me about a baby shower!

I have to admit I love showers, hell I love any excuse for a party, but baby showers always seem to me to be so momentous. I love sitting around with the women in the mom-to-be’s life, sharing stories, eating and oohing and ahhing over all those cute little itty bitty clothes. I’ve thrown a number of showers in my day from laid back co-ed BBQ’s to posh afternoon teas with sushi and champagne and I can’t wait to see what the girls come up with for me.

Of course the inevitable question that follows from shower planners is “Where are you registered?” Now as much as I love parties I hate, hate, hate registering for gifts. Its not really that I don’t like gifts (because I do) and I also think in this day and age that people would rather be guided to a gift the recipient really wants than having to troll the mall all day looking for inspirations but I hate having to pick somewhere to have my registry. Gone are the heady days of department stores carrying everything you could ever want (or perhaps our wants have outgrown the amount of stock a department store can carry) and who really wants to register at numerous locations?

So I was sitting around trying to decide if it would be obnoxious to create an excel spreadsheet instead of a registry and then one of the shower planners could “manage” it when I discovered Wishpot. Wishpot might just be one of the best internet inventions evah! Basically you create your account on Wishpot and then download a little button that sits in your browser toolbar. Then whenever you go to a site that has an item you would like you click the button and its added to your registry. It’s as simple as that!  You can manage, share and update your registry whenever you want. It is so unbelievably easy – guests can click through to the items and purchase them from the online links or mark the item as “reserved” (to stop duplication) and purchase in store. I love that I can add items directly from Etsy or from a manufacturer’s site and my friends or family can then buy from wherever is easiest (or cheapest) for them.

I’m just putting the finishing touches on the registry but I can’t get over how easy Wishpot is to use and how nice it is to be able to include items that I love that aren’t necessarily available in a big store. It’s definitely worth checking out!

Sigh. A little late for me. I’ve registered at BRU, but I wish I would have known about this earlier. I think the person that is doing my shower has already prepared invites, and may have already informed people of the BRU registry. Would be sensless to change it now? Or no?

  2. I’m so gonna use wishpot, cuz that was next – how the hell do I register at the 3 real stores and 12 onlnie stores I’d buy shit at? Thanks for this!

Re Emily_U, send it out – what the hell. There’s a lot of last-minuters who buy gifts. Give them more ideas! Cuz there is a LOT of fun stuff on Etsy!!!! And other places…
